"Do you think amethysts can be the souls of good violets?"

Anne of Green Gables was a little disappointed to find that real diamonds were not the deep, velvety purple she'd always imagined...and I think I can sympathize. February's birthstone, amethyst, has always been one of my favorite gems.

A variety of quartz that ranges from light pinkish-violet to deep purple, amethyst has been treasured since the time of the ancient Egyptians. Greeks and Romans even believed that the stone could prevent drunkenness! In fact, the word "amethyst" comes from the ancient Greek a-methustos, or "not intoxicated."

The Pantone Color Institute obviously shares the world's love of amethyst; they named a rosy purple called "Radiant Orchid" the color of the year for 2014. According to their press release, this lovely hue creates a "healthy glow" and boosts the energy of anyone who wears it.

At D's Keepsakes, we think purple is simply beautiful.
We love it in rings, bracelets, necklaces, scarves...
and we know you will too!
